Frostpunk 2 Camera & Navigation Controls
Effective camera navigation in Frostpunk 2 keeps you aware of district placement, heat coverage, and Frostland connections without losing time in menus. This guide covers every camera-related hotkey and best practices for managing multiple settlements.
Basic Camera Movement
Use WASD to pan across the hexagonal tile map. Q and E rotate the camera around the current focal point, which helps when evaluating wind exposure on housing tiles. Mouse scroll zooms between close district view and the regional Frostland perspective.
Wind exposure significantly affects housing efficiency and heat demand. When evaluating tile placement during frostbreaking, rotate the camera with Q and E to identify sheltered crevasse tiles and wind-exposed ridges. Our Chapter 1 survival guide demonstrates how wind exposure impacts early housing decisions.
City Focus and Colony Cycling
Press F to instantly center the camera on your active city. This shortcut becomes essential in Utopia Builder when your settlement sprawls across dozens of districts. Left Bracket and Right Bracket cycle between New London and any colonies you have established in the Frostland.
From Chapter 1 onward, you will manage the Old Dreadnought colony alongside New London. Regularly cycling between settlements ensures both maintain adequate heat and workforce. Read our colonies management guide for strategies on multi-base administration.
Frostland Map Navigation
Press V or zoom out fully to access the Frostland world map. Here you deploy Frostland Teams on expeditions, establish outposts, and build trails connecting remote resource sites to your city. Click and drag to pan across the Frostland, and use the scroll wheel to zoom between regional and local views.
Trail and Skyway construction requires precise map navigation. Select a Frostland Team, click on a destination tile, and confirm the path. Skyways researched in the Idea Tree allow faster resource transfer with higher capacity limits. See the Frostland exploration guide for expedition mechanics.
Camera Tips for District Planning
Before placing districts, zoom out to evaluate adjacency opportunities. Housing Districts gain heat bonuses when placed next to the generator, inside crevasses, or adjacent to other Housing Districts. Industrial Districts should be isolated from residential and food production zones to prevent squalor and disease.
Use the district proximity overlay (key 8) while panning the camera to visualize positive and negative adjacency effects in real time. Combined with our adjacency and heat bonuses guide, this overlay helps you plan zero-heat housing blocks and efficient industrial zones.
Multi-City Management Workflow
Establish a camera workflow habit: check New London heat and food status, cycle to colonies with bracket keys, review Frostland expeditions with V, then return to the Idea Tree with R for research. This loop covers the three management layers that define Frostpunk 2 gameplay.
During whiteout events, camera speed matters. Pause with Space Bar, cycle through each settlement, verify heat allocation, then resume at speed 1 to monitor changes. Our whiteout preparation guide covers the full pre-blizzard checklist.
